Review (date Oct 27 2003
):
SQLClean finds in a Microsoft SQL Server database and in the code of programs (VB, ASP, Delphi and others) interrelated objects and the database object that are not used. It generates a file with SQL drop statements to clear the database from such useless objects. Besides, it allows you to trace all object interrelations inside the database. The program authors could not achieve the full automation, for example, when the name of a table coincides with a part of the name of a funcion or a variable or just message text in the source code, SQLClean comes to the conclusion that this table is used in the program. We think that this drawback does not make this program less valuable because its use seems to make sense in large and complex database schemes where it is necessary to do the manual check anyway. Detailed documentation is provided with the program. There is an on-line forum on the company's site. Unfortunately, as well as in some other products of this company, a well thought-out and presented interface is spoiled by the bad choice of colors - in this case it is the green text of the menu on the dark green background. Besides, periodically there appears an error message when exiting the program. It does not interfere with the work, but is somewhat irritating.
