Product:Proc-Blaster
Version:2.39 (Build: 157) Release Date:May 12 2003
Review (date Oct 22 2003 ):
Proc-Blaster is a code generation tool, and it is an excellent one. Being oriented towards Microsoft SQL Server 7 or 2000, this program allows you to generate a lot of program code out of the existing templates. Various variants of templates for generating ASP, VB, C#, SQL, 1ClickDB, Delphi, VB.Net come together with the program. Additional variants can be downloaded from the program authors' site. What is especially valuable is that you can edit and create your own templates. Here is a moderate list of the program possible use:
- Create Data Access layer code based on underlying tables, views or stored procedures;
- Create complete web forms in ASP.NET (C# and VB.NET) to work with your existing database;
- Automatically create stored procedures for selecting, updating, deleting and inserting within tables
- Construct an ADO Command object with parameters for large stored procedures with many input and output params;
- Convert your sql server database into HTML by using database object scripts
- Create a trigger based auditing system (templates are included in Proc-Blaster).
It is worth mentioning that generating code takes very little time.
On the whole, the product is more than just good and interesting and besides it has good documentation and very good support.
Unfortunately, the interface - which is generally well thought-out - seems to us very much spoiled by the color palette: blue letters on the dark blue background are barely readable. Altogether, the settings of the program interface are very few. One cannot say that this makes it impossible to work with Proc-Blaster, but it somehow spoils the impression.
